DDU-GKY

Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana (DDU-GKY) aims to skill rural youth who are poor and provide them with jobs having regular monthly wages or above the minimum wages. It is one of the cluster of initiatives of the Ministry of Rural Development, Government of India that seeks to promote rural livelihoods. It is a part of the National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM) – the Mission for poverty reduction called Aajeevika. The scheme will benefit more than 55 million poor rural youth who are ready to be skilled by providing sustainable employment.

This scheme derives importance from its potential to reduce poverty. It is also designed to be a major contributor to the Prime Minister’s ‘Make in India‘ campaign.

- 1. DDU-GKY scheme is market-linked and follows the PPP model.
  2. The candidate has access to new emerging technologies and gets on the job training.
  3. Soft skills are imparted to candidates that help them to start their work with ease better.
  4. Benchmarks and minimum standards are set for quality assurance.
  5. Availability of computer labs and e-learning facilities to impart modern education.
  6. Free uniform, course material, and lodging-boarding facility for candidates.
  7. Free tablet or PC during the program to learn from the broader curriculum at their own pace.
  8. Efforts to place 75% of candidates in jobs with a minimum salary of ₹6000.
  9. Training also includes basic computer knowledge and other soft skills for overall development.
Section 5: Placement Assistance
- A candidate is assisted with placement to the tune of ₹1000/ month for two month period if employed within the district of domicile for three months if employed within the State of domicile and six months if employed outside the State. The amount is directly transferred to the candidate’s account.
